My name is Jenna and I am a PhD Candidate in the Art & Visual Culture Education. I am conducting a research study as part of my dissertation work at the University of Arizona (IRB#08282).
As many of you know, the arts in health field, particularly hospital-based art programs has been growing exponentially within the last 50 years, with a particular focus on hospital art collections. Much of this scholarly attention has focused on the role and purpose of the curator, particularly how curators and art program managers make evidence-based decisions. This study asks whether and how art collections are activated—more specifically, whether hospitals or other healthcare environments with extensive art collections offer tours, who guides these tours, and for whom. The goal of this study is to understand the current landscape of hospital art tours (in-person or digital) and aims to understand the role they play in the hospital art program and/or department. This study will serve as a pilot for my dissertation research investigating the role (if any) art museum education strategies play in hospital art programs and the extent to which art tours engage participants.
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. I do not anticipate any discomfort by participating. The name of the institution associated with the art collection may be used; however, your name will not be used or collected, and no attempts will be made to identify individual contributors. All data will be treated confidentially and maintained in secure storage. Results may be used in articles, presentations, or other materials about this research and its findings. You may withdraw from the study at any time.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the following Qualtrics Form (https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eEyxSVXHW1oQmr4). The form begins with the informed consent statement, which acknowledges your voluntary agreement to participate. After confirming consent, you will be asked a series of questions. The Qualtrics Form will take 10-15 minutes to complete.
An Institutional Review Board responsible for human subjects research at The University of Arizona reviewed this research project and found it to be acceptable, according to applicable state and federal regulations and University policies designed to protect the rights and welfare of participants in research.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly at jsgreen@arizona.edu. Thank you for your time!
